Types of Ghosts

There are three categories of ghosts that I have found. They are:

• Earthbounds or EB's for short
• Spirits
• Entities

An earth-bound is the soul of a deceased person that lived on Earth and is still here on the earth plane for one reason or another. They have not crossed over to the afterlife. It's always their choice to stay here because of one or several reasons. Free will still applies even after we have died. Earth bounds are aware, conscious and interact with the living.

Earth-bounds are the cause for the majority of the hauntings. There are many reasons they stay and one of those reasons are because some don't realize they are dead. This is seen where their death was sudden or tragic.

Another reason an earth-bound may decide to stay is because they just can't part with the house they lived in or possibly some of the material possessions they had. These earth-bounds are the ones that get upset when someone new moves into their house, or remodels or decorates to something they don't approve of. To them, it is still their house and they want things to remain just as they had them when they lived there.

There are also the “Protectors”. These are earth bounds that have stayed behind to protect the living from harm. I see a lot of this where living children are around. An adult earthbound will stay behind to protect the children living in the house. Some of these earth bounds were nannies and they still feel the need to watch over the children. Others may be the grandparent type or someone that just had a love for children and their welfare. They will alert the parents when the children are in physical danger or they will help soothe a child that is in distress from illness, emotional turmoil or just lonely and needs a playmate. Sometimes these earth bounds will be children that will become companions to living children. This is where a lot of "imaginary friends" come onto the scene.

Spirits are the souls of the deceased that have gone into the light and come back to visit on occasions. Unlike an earthbound, they are not stuck or lost on the earth plane. The most common type of spirit visits are from our deceased loved ones. They come to check on us and to let us know that they are still around. This is called After Death Communication or ADC for short.

ADC's come in many forms of contact. It is estimated that as many as 100 million Americans have had ADC's with deceased loved ones. That's roughly almost 40% of the US population!

You may smell their favourite perfume or cologne when they are near. Other people may smell the favourite flower of their deceased loved one. Or maybe your grandma loved to bake and she will leave a scent of freshly baked cookies. The scent can be anything that instantly makes you associate the smell with a certain person. It's what I call a “comfort scent”.

Dreams are a very easy and non-invasive way for spirits to contact with you. Especially your deceased loved ones. These dreams will be very detailed and seem very real. Which they are! Actually, they are not really dreams, they are visits. Spirits enter your dreams because it is easier for them to communicate with you this way because you are now both on the astral plane.

You will be able to tell the difference between a dream and a visit. In a dream you are dreaming about them as in memories replaying. During a visit, the encounter is very real and interactive. You will get messages from them usually saying that they are ok and they are always with you. This type of visit will leave you with a sense of a very real visit that you will be able to recall with exact details of the conversation, the feelings and the emotions that were involved. These visits are meant to leave you with a sense of comfort and peace. In no way will they be threatening or frightening.

You don't even have to have known the deceased person. For example, say that your grandma pass away before you were born. You can still get visits from her during your dream state. You do not have to have known them personally for a spirit to visit you. What is necessary in order for you to have a visit from a spirit is some kind of connection. That could be a personal one, genetic, or a strong desire.

Another type of spirit visit is the actual visual one. This most commonly happens right after a person has passed over. There are countless stories of people seeing their loved ones for a brief moment and then finding out minutes later that they have died.

When a spirit comes for a visit they will show themselves to you as you last knew them. They are visiting you for a purpose and if you don't recognise them then how can they get their message to you.

Entities are beings from other planets and/or dimensions. They are quite rare to find. Entities are masters at shape-shifting. They come here to explore and learn about our culture on Earth. Most of them are harmeless but, like EB's you do get your mischievous ones. This is where you get childhood fears of monsters.

Entities and some EB's can and will shape-shift into scary images just for the sake of doing it and getting the fear reaction out of their intended victims. Children are most vulnerable because they are easily able to see them and they are most frightened of them. This is the typical bully scenario.
